How Sexual Partner Abuse has Changed with Social Media
"Incidents involving threats to expose sexual images, or what media
are calling “sextortion,” are not new, but have evolved with social
media.
In a large study
we recently did on the topic, we found that sextortion mostly involves
the classic dynamics of abusive relationships, or malicious online
seducers with a few digital-age twists....
In our study, we asked young people between the ages of 18 and 25 to
complete an online survey telling us their stories about sextortion, in
partnership with the nonprofit Thorn
and through ads on Facebook. We defined sextortion as threats to expose
sexual images in order to make a person do something or for other
reasons, such as revenge or humiliation.
Among the 1,631 respondents to the online survey, many gave harrowing
accounts about threats to send sexual images to parents, employers and
classmates. About half of the victims were youth under age 18. In many
cases, these images were originally entrusted willingly to intimate
partners. In other cases, they were coerced or even fabricated. The
perpetrators were mostly men targeting women and girls, but we also heard about sextortion within LGBTQ relationships."

History of Abuse Seen in Many Girls in Juvenile System
"As many as 80 percent of the girls in some states’ juvenile justice systems have a history of sexual or physical abuse,
according to a report released Thursday. The report, a rare examination
of their plight, recommends that girls who have been sexually
trafficked no longer be arrested on prostitution charges.
The study, 'The Sexual Abuse to Prison Pipeline: The Girls’ Story,'
found that sexual abuse was among the primary predictors of girls’
involvement with juvenile justice systems, but that the systems were
ill-equipped to identify or treat the problem."

Sexual Abuse of Children with Disabilities: A National Snapshot
Executive Summary
Children with disabilities are three times more likely than children without them to be victims of sexual abuse, and the likelihood is even higher for children with certain types of disabilities, such as intellectual or mental health disabilities.

However, sexual abuse of children with disabilities has not garnered the attention of policymakers, practitioners, advocates, or community members.These children are also less likely to receive victim services and supports that are more readily available to other victims because of a variety of factors including barriers to reporting and a lack of responses tailored to meet their unique needs. Without receiving support, these children suffer serious long-term aftereffects, including post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety, and depression, as well as an increased risk of victimization in adulthood

Shocking Report Reveals Epidemic of Sexual Abuse in Juvenile Prisons
More than one out of every ten child prisoners in state custody is molested or raped, according to a new report by the Bureau of Justice Statistics.
An unprecedented report released last month by the U.S. Bureau of Justice Statistics (BJS) has revealed some disturbing statistics about sexual abuse in U.S. juvenile detention facilities. Twelve percent of youth held in such facilities say that they have been sexually abused over the course of one year. Or, to put it another way, more than 1 in 10 of young people under state supervision are molested and/or raped. Nearly all of these incidents involve a staff member (about 85%), while the rest involve another incarcerated youth.
According to the study, male prisoners were more likely than females to report sexual activity with facility staff, but less likely than females to report forced sexual activity with other youth. Surprisingly, a whopping 95 percent of all youth reporting staff sexual misconduct said they had been victimized by female staff members. In the most troubling facilities, between 20 and 30 percent of incarcerated youth reported abuse.

The Vatican's Perverted Sense of Justice: Pedophiles Stay in the Church, While Priests Who Ordain Women Are Excommunicated

What happens if a Catholic priest molests children?
Usually, he's protected by the Church hierarchy. Maybe he'll eventually have his parish or diocese taken away, or be switched to another one -- often after years of serial abuse. But there's a good chance he'll stay in the Church.
So what happens if a Catholic priest publicly supports ordaining women? Well, then he's excommunicated on the double.
"Nearly 5,000 Catholic priests [in the U.S.] have sexually abused over 12,000 Catholic children…but they were not excommunicated," says Father Roy Bourgeois, who faced the latter scenario after helping celebrate what the Vatican considers to be an illegitimate ordination mass in August 2008. Bourgeois, a Vietnam veteran with a Purple Heart who became a prominent peace activist, stood with the trailblazers of the female ordination movement in Lexington, Ky., to make Janice Sevre-Duszynska a Catholic priest.
